The Right Start Inc., a Westlake Village company that markets children’s clothing and toys through mail-order catalogues, reported a profit in its fiscal third quarter, in contrast with a year-earlier loss.

Right Start earned $146,000 in the three months that ended Feb. 24, while its revenue jumped 58% to $8.34 million.

A year before, it lost $60,000 on $5.27 million in revenue.

The company’s nine-month profit was $640,000, up slightly from $625,000 in the fiscal 1992 period. Its revenue rose 39%, to $27.5 million from $19.8 million.

Lenny Targon, Right Start’s chief executive, said the company has continued to see an improvement in its profit margins over fiscal 1992, when sales and profits were hurt by the recession.

He added that the company is negotiating with Rich’s Department Store, a division of Federated Department Stores Inc., to open two more retail outlets, bringing Right Start’s total to three.
