Prince Sihanouk
In response to “The Royal Puzzle in Cambodia,” March 6:
Prince Norodom Sihanouk has displayed his mischievous character, underhandedly attacking his own people, the press and even insulting diplomats. Sihanouk has been using force to condemn others.
I am a Cambodian-American who is against Sihanouk and who is very concerned about the future of Cambodia. As long as Sihanouk is still alive and his followers are still loyal to him, Cambodia’s future will stay the same. When Sihanouk was the head of Cambodia, he deliberately prohibited the press and his people from discrediting him or his government. Clearly, this issue of prohibiting is only the tip of an iceberg. He restrained the people’s right to freedom of press, assembly, speech, etc., in Cambodia in his administration. Thus, Sihanouk ought not to run for president again just for the future of Cambodia.
Furthermore, I think that Sihanouk proclaiming himself as the son of God is absolutely absurd. After all, Sihanouk had joined the evil Khmer Rouge before.
