Figures Questioned: EMI Music Group is questioning the accuracy of recent Recording Industry Assn. of America figures that suggested U.S. record sales last year jumped 15% to a record $9 billion. Computerized sales data compiled by the New York research firm SoundScan showed only a 10% gain over 1991’s $7.8 billion. The discrepancy is important, sources said, because it could undermine long-range industry financial projections. An association spokesman said Tuesday the group stood by its figures.
