Who was the first woman surgeon general? Come on, you know. It was what’s her name . . . uh . . . Dr. Antonia Novello! President Bush appointed her in November, 1989, when C. Everett Koop stepped down.

Can you answer a few more like that?

Even if you can’t, you might still cop a prize if you get on the right team during the Glendale Community College Women’s History Month Trivial Pursuit on Monday.

“The community is more than welcome,” said psychology professor Jessica Gillooley, who put the event together. That includes guys.

“I keep trying to get them to come,” she said and promised that it won’t be a battle of the sexes. Males will be distributed among the teams.

To start, said Gillooley, “however many people come, we divide them into groups.”

For each turn, a group will chose one of the five categories: Women in American History, Women in Psychology, Women Inventors, Women in the Feminist Movement, and Women of Color. Points are scored for right answers.

Some of the questions were drawn from the lectures and activities that are part of Women’s History Month at the college.

“You might not know that information,” said Gillooley. “But if someone out of the eight or nine in the group heard it,” you’ll be OK.

So you might know which black woman ran for President in 1972.

And if you don’t, you’ll learn that it was Shirley Chisholm.

“My deal is that I want (people) to learn. I don’t care how they learn it,” Gillooley said. “We’ve made it really fun to learn about women.”

The game is free and will be in Room 225 of the Chemistry/Math building, 1500 N. Verdugo Road, from 3 to 4 p.m.
