WHITTIER : District to Let Parents Pick School That Child Attends
The East Whittier City School District has become one of the first area school systems to allow parents to select which public school their children will attend.
The policy, approved this week by the school board, will allow students to transfer from their neighborhood schools to any of the district’s 10 elementary schools and three middle schools, space permitting. Parents must provide transportation.
Officials opted for open enrollment as a way to balance attendance in a district that has some crowded campuses and some schools with surplus space.
