In an effort to address the critical shortage of child care in Pico-Union, a coalition of community-based organizations and the city Community Redevelopment Agency will sponsor a free child care fair Saturday.

Representatives from government and private agencies will offer referrals to child care facilities and distribute literature in Spanish and English on child care services. Information on training programs, licensing requirements and funding sources will be available for participants interested in opening child care centers in their homes.

UCLA Education Extension will also present information on its Basic Core Program in Early Childhood Education. The program provides training to meet state licensing requirements and will soon be offered in Spanish in the Pico-Union area, event officials said.
