STANTON : A Glowing Tribute to City Will Go Up

Share

An internally lighted sign glowing with the name Stanton will be built this spring on Katella Avenue to replace one that was removed during construction of the Smith’s Food and Drug Center.

The four-foot-high, eight-foot-wide sign will display Stanton’s seal as the letter “O” in the city’s name, and the motto “Community Pride and Forward Vision” will be written at the base, according to city Planning Manager Mark D. Lloyd.

The blue, white and gold sign is being built by a Stanton company and will be paid by Smith’s at a cost of about $7,000, Lloyd said. He said it should be installed in late May.

About 600 feet west of Beach Boulevard, on a median in front of the city’s library, the sign will be at the geographic center of the city, Lloyd said. Its design will be copied for future signs at the city’s north and south borders on Beach Boulevard and west and east entrances on Katella Avenue, he said.

The sign will be built by The Signs & Services Co. in four to six weeks, Lloyd said. The city will have to run power lines under the street for the lighting.
