DANA POINT / SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Motorists Warned of Del Obispo St. Work

Share

City officials are warning motorists to expect traffic delays in both Dana Point and San Juan Capistrano for about a week because of roadwork.

Between today and April 10, road crews will be applying a layer of asphalt on Del Obispo Street, a major arterial connecting the two communities, between Camino del Avion and Paseo de la Paz.

Crews will be working between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily, and city officials are advising motorists to use Camino Capistrano and Stonehill Drive as alternative routes.

Bill Huber, the San Juan Capistrano director of engineering and building, said the work was necessary to keep heavily traveled Del Obispo Street in good shape.

“Maintenance of our roads is essential to prevent major structural damage” to the city street system, Huber said.

“Maintenance on our arterial system is always a challenge because there are limited alternate routes.

“However, the contractor will be doing everything possible to cause our residents the least inconvenience. This overlay project is expected to provide a better roadway surface for many years.”

Funded by state gasoline taxes, the $86,000 street project is being handled by city-hired contractor All American Asphalt of Corona.

The project has been on the drawing board for the past year and was given a high priority by city officials, Huber said.
