Temple City : Utility User Tax Considered

Share

The city will hold a series of community meetings in July on whether to implement a utility user tax, Mayor Bobby McGowan said.

The City Council is expected to vote in August or September on whether to implement a tax. Council members would also decide how high the tax would be and which utilities would be taxed.

It would take an additional four months before the tax starts to appear on customers’ bills, McGowan said.

A 2% utility users tax would cost an average resident $3 to $5 a month and would raise $400,000 to $500,000 annually, city officials have said.

City Manager Denise E. Ovrom said the city, which has lost $450,000 in state revenue over the last four years, is expected to lose $230,000 more in 1993-94.
