Group Opposes Loss of Interest
The League of California Homeowners, a homeowners organization, has been formed as a consumer advocacy group to oppose restrictions or elimination of the home mortgage interest deduction.
The league’s president is Ken Willis of Upland, former vice president of the Building Industry Assn. of Southern California.
He cited recent indications at both state and federal levels that threaten the mortgage interest deduction as providing the impetus for homeowners to band together.
“The potential of a complete loss of mortgage interest tax deduction would force a major tax increase of thousands of dollars per family, per year,” he said. “This is not the $17 per month tax increase referred to in President Clinton’s address to Congress.”
The community-based group is nonprofit, nonpartisan and open to homeowners and renters for dues of $15 per year.
