Jim Montgomery scored three goals in a 4 1/2-minute pan of the third period, rallying top-ranked Maine (40-1-2) to a 5-4 victory over defending champion Lake Superior State in the NCAA hockey championship.

Montgomery was assisted on each of his goals by freshman Paul Kariya, who on Friday was named winner of the Hobey Baker Award as college hockey’s top player.
