ILL WILL

After reading “Germany’s Troubles” (by Tamara Jones, March 7), I had one question. Who will teach the children of Germany not to hate? From their parents and grandparents the children have acquired a deep-seated bitterness for people whose only crime is that they are different. From their neighbors, who applaud their reprehensible acts, they are learning that it is acceptable to use violence. From their government they are learning that the victims of this violence have virtually no recourse.

I am certain that the majority of Germany’s people have cast off the cloak of hatred, violence, and ethnic supremacy that was their legacy from the Third Reich. But what about the minority that has not? How do those children learn acceptance and peace? What legacy will they pass to their children?
