Plasma and Materials Technologies Inc., a Chatsworth maker of semiconductor equipment, said it signed an agreement to sell its newest product in Japan.

The contract, an expansion of a 1991 marketing agreement between PMT and Canon Inc., calls for the Japanese concern to sell PMT’s advanced plasma system for etching patterns on the film in integrated circuits. The company estimates that the market for these types of products in Japan is about $500 million a year.

PMT said it plans to introduce the system in the United States later this year.
