ALISO VIEJO : School District OKs High-Tech Contract

Share

Trustees in the Capistrano Unified School District have approved spending more than $847,000 to create high-tech informational systems at Aliso Niguel High School and Aliso Viejo Middle School, the first schools in the state to use such systems.

In a unanimous vote last week, the trustees awarded a contract to Indiana-based Dynacom Inc./AEI Music Inc. to install the informational systems, which will involve wiring both schools with a fiber-optic cable network. About two months ago, the trustees enthusiastically endorsed the high-tech systems for the new schools, which are scheduled to open in the fall.

With the informational systems, teachers and students using remote controls from their classrooms will be able to gain access to computers, laser-disc players and other equipment kept in a central media center.

The contract with the company, which has developed similar systems for several Midwestern schools, includes television monitors for each classroom and other multimedia equipment.

Funds to pay for the systems are coming from developer fees and taxes collected from property owners through a special Mello-Roos tax district in the area of the schools.
