Jet Crashes in Guatemala City
A Salvadoran jetliner crashed into two houses near Guatemala City’s international airport Monday. Officials reported several dozen injuries but said everyone got off the plane safely.
One injured child from the Boeing 767-200 was taken to a hospital, and other passengers suffered bumps and bruises but did not require hospitalization, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Authorities said initial reports of three people on the ground missing turned out to be unfounded.
Flight 510 from Salvador’s national airline, TACA, was bound from San Salvador to Los Angeles via Guatemala City with 215 people aboard, said Leticia Calaveras, an airline official in Los Angeles.
Boeing spokesman Mark Hooper said the plane landed but was unable to stop.
