U.S., Philippines Reach Anti-Piracy Agreement: The two countries have reached an agreement that the Philippines hopes will get it removed from the U.S. list of countries failing to enforce trademark, copyright and patent piracy, a Manila delegation said in Washington. Rizalino S. Navarro, Philippines secretary of trade and industry, announced the agreement on intellectual property protection after meeting Trade Representative Mickey Kantor. Philippines officials described the agreement as a follow-up to President Fidel Ramos’ Feb. 26 executive order creating a new government interagency committee to combat piracy of foreign copyrights, trademarks and patents.
