Man Killed as Car Hits Parked Truck
A 26-year-old Orange man died after his car slammed into the rear of a truck parked on the side of the Riverside Freeway, California Highway Patrol officials said Tuesday.
Roger D. Lechner was driving east at about 85 m.p.h. on the freeway when his car struck the rear of a tractor-trailer shortly before midnight Monday just east of the Imperial Highway exit, investigators said.
The driver of the truck, Jimmy Nichols, was in the cab and was not injured.
It was unclear what may have caused Lechner’s car to veer off the road, CHP Officer Angel Johnson said.
Toxicology tests may determine if Lechner had ingested drugs or alcohol before the crash, Johnson said.
