NATION IN BRIEF : MISSOURI : St. Louis Elects Its First Black Mayor
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Voters gave the city its first black mayor, awarding Democrat Freeman Bosley Jr. a landslide victory over three opponents. With 89% of the vote counted, Bosley had 67% to 17% for his Republican opponent, John O’Gorman. Two independent candidates split the remaining votes. Bosley succeeds Vince Schoemehl, who decided not to seek a fourth four-year term after a bid for the Democratic nomination for governor last year.
