Dean Ruling: The family of the late actor James Dean and their Indianapolis-based licensing agent Curtis Management Group has won a $1.6-million judgment against Warner Bros. The sum is to partially pay for legal costs that resulted from a $90-million suit brought against Curtis and the Dean estate by Warner Bros., which the studio lost. Warner had claimed that its standard artist contract with Dean--from when he made “East of Eden,” “Rebel Without a Cause” and “Giant”--gave it merchandising rights to the actor’s name and likeness.
