OXNARD : Contract Awarded for New High School

Share

A Pasadena firm was awarded a $25.2-million contract Wednesday to build the new Oxnard High School.

The board of the Oxnard Union High School District voted unanimously to award the contract to Shirley Brothers Inc. No Ventura County firms placed bids for the project, Supt. William Studt said.

The district will pick up $331,403 of the contract as part of an agreement with the State Allocation Board, which disburses bond money for school projects statewide, school officials said.

The district is planning to move Oxnard High School from its present location at 5th Street and Hobson Way to a 50-acre site near Gonzales and Patterson roads. The district is moving the school because the present campus is in the flight path of Oxnard Airport.

Studt said groundbreaking on the school will probably take place next month.
