From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A mass march by Moroccan women’s groups planned for Sunday to protest sexual harassment has been banned, the groups said. Officials gave no reason for the ban. The groups decided on the march after a sensational trial last month in Casablanca in which Chief Police Commissioner Mohammed Mustapha Tabet, 54, was sentenced to death for multiple rape, deflowering virgins, sexual violence and abducting women. The women’s groups are demanding changes in the law that regulates family affairs, which they say restricts women’s rights.
