OXNARD : Man Faces Trial in Fatal Car Crash
An Oxnard man was ordered Thursday to stand trial in Ventura County Superior Court for the death of his passenger in an automobile crash Dec. 22.
Paul G. Menchego, 23, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on a charge of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Municipal Judge Bruce A. Clark scheduled arraignment for April 22 before Superior Court Judge Charles R. McGrath.
Investigators said Menchego lost control of his car and struck a tree while exiting southbound California 33 at Main Street in Ventura. His passenger, Ernest Barron, 29, of Ventura was killed and Menchego was injured. Investigators said Menchego had a blood alcohol content of 0.22%, nearly three times the legal limit.
