A summary of selected City Hall actions affecting Central Los Angeles in the past week. : CITY COUNCIL

SENIOR CENTER RENOVATION: Approved spending $50,000 to renovate the Crenshaw Senior Citizens center, at 5133 S. Crenshaw Blvd. The work will include new ceiling tile and the addition of a patio and restroom.

LITTLE TOKYO RESTORATION: Approved a proposal to continue the city-assisted rehabilitation program of historic buildings in Little Tokyo. Under the program, the city provides a maximum grant of $50,000, with the owner providing a matching amount. The money is used to beautify the exterior of the buildings.

HELIPORT: Approved the continued operation of a heliport atop the Bank of America data processing center at 1000 W. Temple St. in Echo Park.

SKID ROW HEALTH FAIR: Approved the closure of several streets near Downtown, including Towne Street, Crocker Street and Gladys Avenue between 4th and 6th streets, for the Skid Row Community Health Fair, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The fair will offer a variety of services, including medical checkups and tests for tuberculosis and HIV.

HOLLYWOOD BOWL: Councilman John Ferraro introduced a proposal requesting that fees be waived for traffic control officers provided to the Los Angeles Philharmonic Assn. for concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in 1993. The council approved an ordinance earlier this year requiring sponsors of such events to pay for traffic control. During the 1992 season, traffic costs for the Bowl amounted to $133,514. Ferraro said the association has said it will pay fees for 1994.

RIOT RECOVERY: Approved a proposal requiring the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency to give priority to any redevelopment plans in areas affected by last year’s riots. These areas include Westlake, the Crenshaw Corridor, Koreatown, Mid-Wilshire, Watts and Hollywood. Passed: 9-1. Voting yes: Joan Milke Flores, Mike Hernandez and Mark Ridley-Thomas. Absent: Richard Alatorre, Nate Holden, Rita Walters.

SMOKING: Approved a proposal by Councilwoman Ruth Galanter prohibiting smoking in City Hall or police headquarters to minimize fire hazards in the buildings, which do not have sprinklers. A proposal by Councilman Marvin Braude to ban smoking in all city facilities on the basis of health concerns is pending before the council. Passed: 12-0. Voting yes: Flores, Hernandez, Ridley-Thomas. Absent: Alatorre, Holden and Walters.
