The Rams have called an 11 a.m. news conference today to announce the signing of Buffalo linebacker Shane Conlan.

Conlan, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, agreed to a three-year contract to play for the Rams on Saturday night. He was scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles from Pittsburgh on Sunday night.

Conlan, 29, has started 76 games during his six-year career, and has at times been limited by injury. He sat out part of the 1988 season because of a foot injury, part of the 1989 season because of a knee injury and three games last season because of an ankle injury.

Conlan is projected to start at middle linebacker in the Rams’ 4-3 defense.

“I’d like to try the 4-3 at least once in my career,” Conlan said recently. “The middle guy is supposed to make all the tackles, and I’d like to see how I do.”
