ChipSoft to Acquire Meca Software: ChipSoft Inc. said it will buy Meca Software Inc., its largest rival in the tax software business, for about $58 million in cash. Under terms of the agreement, ChipSoft, maker of the popular tax software called TurboTax, will pay $11.63 in cash for each Meca common share. The merger is contingent on the majority of Meca shareholders tendering their shares for cash. So far, the holders of about 50.5% of Meca shares have agreed to tender their shares. After the merger, Meca will operate as a separate unit of ChipSoft.
