As German tourist LUKA KRAUSE waited with her husband and their 2-year-old daughter for Disneyland to open, she commented on her country's warning about travel in south Florida and whether this warning should be extended to Southern California. She told The Times:

My husband and I have always wanted to visit California. But after the riots last year, we grew hesitant about whether it would be safe to travel here. When we saw the news reports, it seemed the whole city (Los Angeles) was going up in flames.

So after careful consideration, we decided to visit California. We’ve been here two weeks and it’s been fantastic. Americans are very warm and charming, and though there have been some bad things that have happened to Germans and other tourists, I think the risk of anything happening is still very low.

For us, and any traveler, you must be aware of what the environment is. We know that there could be trouble with this (Rodney King civil rights) trial. Traveling in America can be dangerous, but if you have ever traveled to other countries, you know the danger is as high, or higher.
