Harley Cafe Revs Up: Let’s compare Apples and Oranges--specifically, hot spots that the Big Apple has and Orange County lacks.

New York has a Planet Hollywood and a Hard Rock Cafe. So does Orange County. But what about a Harley-Davidson Cafe? One is planned for mid-town Manhattan, so might there be a Harley in Orange County’s future?

“We’re going to move slowly on this,” Harley spokesman Tom Parsons said. Mark Packer, the company’s partner in the New York project, “is a proven restaurateur, . . . and it’s something that’s a new business for us.”

Packer, who operates two New York favorites--Canastel’s and Wolf’s Sixth Avenue Delicatessen--has “a proven track record,” Parsons said. “If someone came in from Orange County today and said they wanted to open a restaurant, we’d say no. We’re in the restaurant business with Mark.”

A spokeswoman said that Packer has no plans to open Harleys elsewhere: “He’s too busy concentrating on this one location.”

The planned Harley-Davidson Cafe will be along the lines, however, of two nearby Big Apple hot spots: Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock.

There is no word on whether the fries will be cooked in crankcase oil or if Harley Hog sandwiches will be on the bill of fare.
