SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS : Park Agency Offers Home-Building Tips

Share

The National Park Service has published a brochure designed to help people building homes in the Santa Monica Mountains to blend their new structures with the landscape and indigenous flora and fauna.

The brochure includes tips on choosing a site for a home, selecting materials and colors for its exterior, and landscaping with indigenous, drought-tolerant plants.

“These are simple things that, collectively, would really have a positive impact on the environment,” said Tedra Fox, a planner with the National Park Service, who wrote the eight-page brochure.

“This is our first effort at trying to work with landowners,” Fox said.

The park service printed 1,000 brochures. To request a free brochure, call Jean Bray at (818) 597-1036, Ext., 232, or write to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, 30401 Agoura Road, Suite 100, Agoura Hills, CA 91301.
