Marian Anderson

I was 15 years old and attended my first professional concert in Stockton. Marian Anderson sang and stunned me with the beauty of her voice and her regal presence (“Pioneering Singer Marian Anderson Dies,” Section A, April 9). It was the first time I had ever heard anyone sing “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?,” and the passion and power of the performance echoes through my memories on many occasions.

But I also recall Anderson’s graciousness. After the concert, she sat at the stage door receiving, greeting and giving autographs to at least 100 concert-goers lined up there. When will we see and hear such another?
