SYLMAR : College to Run Farmers’ Market
Starting Sunday, the Mission College parking lot will become home to a weekly Farmers’ Market that officials hope will raise $50,000 a year for student scholarships and instructional programs.
Neil Farren, dean of college advancement, said money raised from vendors peddling produce and fresh seafood will aid many of the college’s low-income students if Gov. Pete Wilson pushes through a proposed plan to raise community college fees this summer.
The market, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., is sponsored by the Foundation for Mission College, a college fund-raising arm.
