SAN FERNANDO : Community Programs Budget Gains $98,000

The San Fernando City Council on Monday allocated nearly $100,000 in additional federal funds for programs to repave streets, fight graffiti and provide gang diversion activities and other services for youth.

Josie Aguilar, the city’s assistant to the city administrator, said the city learned in April that it would receive an additional $98,000 in community development grant funds, bringing the total for fiscal year 1993-94 to $418,030. The city decided to increase funding for existing community projects approved by the council in February, she said.

The bulk of the money, $67,730, will help pay for new gutters, street repaving and restriping along Fifth and DeFoe streets and an alleyway between Fourth and Fifth streets.

An additional $10,300 will be earmarked for a graffiti-removal program and $10,000 will be added to funding for El Centro de Amistad, which contracts with the city to provide youth services. The remaining $9,800 will be spent on administration costs, she said.
