Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Shotgun Suspect Held Without Bond

A suspect in a string of drive-by shotgun shootings was ordered held without bond on a single count of first-degree murder. James E. Swann Jr., 29, was arrested Monday and charged with the shooting death minutes earlier of Nello Hughes, 61. Police and city officials swiftly expressed confidence that Swann is the one who killed two other people and wounded four others in an eight-week string of random shootings in a residential neighborhood two miles from the White House. He has not been charged in those cases, however.
