Borland, WordPerfect Join Forces in Software Wars: Responding to competitive challenges from Microsoft Corp. and Lotus Development, Scotts Valley-based Borland International and Utah-based WordPerfect Corp. have agreed to bundle three of their best-selling software products into a package called Borland Office for Windows. The new package will consist of Borland’s Quattro Pro spreadsheet, its Paradox for database software, and the WordPerfect word-processing program, and will carry a suggested retail price of $595. Both Microsoft and Lotus have done well selling so-called suites, which package several major programs together, but neither Borland nor WordPerfect had broad enough product lines to match the offer on their own.
