Norwalk-La Mirada : Toughlove Sessions Offered to Parents of Problem Youth
Parents of troubled children will get help under a new program in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.
Toughlove International, a nonprofit organization based in Doylestown, Pa., will give self-help materials to parents of children whose problems include running away from home, drug or alcohol use, rebelliousness or breaking the law.
The materials will be distributed in group counseling sessions each Wednesday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the school district’s Professional Development Center, 12820 Pioneer Blvd., Norwalk.
Parents will be instructed by a district counselor and a Toughlove representative and will be trained to conduct the sessions on their own.
Lucille Householder, who is in charge of setting up the program, said that once it is running on its own, a similar program for Spanish-speaking parents will be organized.
