Howard Young, 81, who was co-founder and president of Lewis & Young Productions and the Sacramento Music Circus. Young moved from his native Chicago to Los Angeles to attend UCLA, studying to become a lawyer. But he dropped out of law school when a part-time accounting job with a leading impresario introduced him to producing plays and to his future partner, Russell L. Lewis. Before Young retired in late 1991 and Lewis died last year, the duo’s half-century partnership produced nearly three dozen plays and musicals for Broadway and the national touring circuit. In 1951, they created Music Circus, also known as the Sacramento Light Opera Assn., and produced more than 300 shows for its first 40 seasons. On Monday in Santa Barbara.
