PANORAMA CITY : Business Watch for Boulevard Forms
- Share via
A new Van Nuys Boulevard Business Watch is being formed to lure shoppers back to neighborhood businesses by cleaning up the area from Oxnard to Nordhoff streets.
Barry Leonard, a local businessman who is coordinating the effort, is recruiting merchants along the boulevard for the group, which he hopes will begin meetings in June.
Leonard said he based the idea on the success of another business watch along Sepulveda Boulevard, which asks members to keep an eye out for illegal activities and clean up graffiti and litter around their own businesses.
“We hope to be doing what they are doing. People don’t want to come up here and shop if it’s dirty and there are gangs,” Leonard said. “The city doesn’t have the budget to do it.”
The formation of the business watch, Leonard said, will also free up volunteer anti-graffiti groups to spend more time cleaning residences, light poles and underpasses.
Interested merchants can call Leonard at (818) 891-6711.
