THOUSAND OAKS : Residents Seek to Block Gas Station

Share

Citing concerns over increased traffic and other safety issues, residents of Oakbrook Village in Thousand Oaks said they are circulating a petition against a Mobil gas station proposed for their neighborhood.

“We don’t feel this should be shoved down our throats,” said Steve Lacey, one of the organizers of the petition drive. “This is a nice neighborhood and we don’t want to see it ruined.”

Lacey said more than 100 people have signed the petition against the gas station, which Mobil Oil Corp. wants to build at the corner of Avenida de los Arboles and Erbes Road.

Lacey, who lives across the street from the project site, said residents are concerned about increased traffic, noise and potential gas spills.

He said dozens of residents plan to attend the Planning Commission meeting on Monday night to request that the permit required for the project be denied. All service stations require a special permit because they handle combustible materials.

The Planning Commission staff has recommended approval of the project.

The Planning Commission’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers, 2400 Willow Lane.
