UNIVERSITY PARK : 11 Teachers to Be Honored for Work

The Education Consortium of Central Los Angeles will honor 11 outstanding teachers at a ceremony May 10.

The consortium, which includes educational institutions and museums, strives to improve the quality of education for those who live and work in the University Park area around USC.

The 1993 Teacher Recognition Awards honor teachers whose extra efforts have benefited students enrolled in the 48 consortium public and parochial schools.

This year’s outstanding teachers in kindergarten through grade 6 are: Lisa Beebe, Weemes Elementary School; Lydia Henkis, Nativity School; Evelyn Moore, Trinity Street Elementary School and Sister Michelle Toepp, St. Agnes School.

For grades seven through 12, the winners are: Tom Adams, John Adams Middle School; Lois D. Bradford, Manual Arts High School; Sussette Carroll, Thomas Edison Junior High School; Jay Fern, James Foshay Middle School; Lidia Font, Manual Arts High School; Mark Hays, John Adams Middle School and Joshua Pechthalt, Manual Arts High School.

All of the teachers were nominated by school officials, parents or students. The winners of two $500 cash awards will be announced at the ceremony, which begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Pompeiian Room of Doheny Mansion at Mt. St. Mary’s College, 8 Chester Place. The entrance is on Adams Boulevard between Figueroa and Hoover streets.
