Thornton Sargent; Former Member of L.A. Airport Board

Thornton Sargent, a former member of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners, has died at age 90.

Sargent died Thursday in Rancho Palos Verdes, said his son, Thornton Sargent III of Berkeley.

Born in Wichita, Kan., and educated at the University of Michigan, Sargent made his career as a district theater manager for Skouras Bros., overseeing major first-run houses such as Grauman’s (now Mann’s) Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

During World War II, Sargent was a Navy lieutenant commander in charge of the Naval Photographic Depot in Hollywood, which produced war training films.

Sargent is also survived by a second son, Richard, also of Berkeley, and four grandchildren.
