Unbeaten Genaro Hernandez will defend his junior-lightweight boxing championship tonight against former bantamweight title-holder Raul Perez at the Forum.

Hernandez (27-0), from Mission Viejo, is making the fourth defense of his World Boxing Assn. 130-pound championship.

After putting together a 23-0 record in Southern California bouts after turning pro in 1984, Hernandez won his title in France in 1991. His last two defenses were in Japan.

His only U.S. fight in the last 18 months was a 12-round decision over Omar Catari in the Forum 14 months ago .

Perez (50-3-2), who defended the World Boxing Council bantamweight championship seven times between 1988 and 1991, lost it two years ago at the Forum to Greg Richardson.

The 5-foot-11 Tijuana boxer has moved up to the 130-pound class, but has fought only once in the last 13 months.

On the undercard, two welterweights with undefeated records will meet. Ariel Chavez (15-0) of Buenos Aires will fight Wilfred Rivera (15-0-1) of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
