BURBANK : $1.5 Million OKd for Local Programs

The Burbank City Council has approved $1.5 million in Community Development Block Grant funding for nearly two dozen private and public programs.

About $1 million of that went for capital projects, such as $650,000 in federal funding for housing rehabilitation throughout the city.

Other capital projects included a new heating system at McKinley Elementary School, a toddler playground at Monterey High School, and $220,000 to make city facilities more handicapped-accessible.

Almost $200,000 is being spent on public services such as the Fair Housing Council of the San Fernando Valley, the Burbank Temporary Aid Center, the Family Service Agency of Burbank, the Summer Youth Employment and Training Program, the Salvation Army, the YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank, and the Parks and Recreation Department.

Another $253,000 is going for administrative costs for the Community Development Block Grant program.

The Armenian Relief Society was denied a request for $24,000.

Also, the San Fernando Valley Neighborhood Legal Services of Pacoima was denied a request for $9,000.
