NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Girlfriend Recants Rape Accusations

Share

The girlfriend of a city traffic enforcement officer accused of a daylong rampage testified Wednesday that she lied to police when she reported that he abducted her at gunpoint and raped her.

The 21-year-old woman was called to the witness stand by prosecutors in the case of Troyal Lee Sims, 30, who is being held on suspicion of attempted murder, kidnap for sexual purposes, rape and other charges stemming from an Aug. 30 assault on two apartments in North Hollywood.

Sims contends that he burst into an apartment and shot two people in an attempt to rescue his girlfriend, who had become involved with a small group operating a forgery ring.

The defense claim appears to have been bolstered by the woman’s testimony.

She also testified that she willingly had sex with him in a beach parking lot and in a condominium owned by Sims’ brother.

The woman said she was still in love with Sims and said that she would like to marry him.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Linda Acaldo plans to play for the jury an edited version of a tape-recording that police made soon after Sims returned the woman to her apartment.

In her testimony Wednesday, the woman said she lied to police because she was angry with Sims, who indirectly led police to the forgery ring by shooting two people at her Hesby Street apartment.

Sims, who is being held without bail, is expected to testify during the trial.
