Pop Album Chart : Aerosmith on Top but for How Long?

Share

Aerosmith’s “Get a Grip” entered the pop album chart at No. 1, but it remains to be seen how firm that grip will be. “The Bodyguard,” which slipped to No. 2, has virtually owned the No. 1 position since it came out late last year. Since it has easily met all challenges so far, Aerosmith shouldn’t get too comfortable in the top spot. Stone Temple Pilots’ “Core” has been a slow-building hit and lately has been moving strongly toward the Top 10, climbing 14 places in the last two weeks to No. 21. Primus’ “Pork Soda,” premiering at No. 7, is a major surprise. Silk’s “Freak Me” is still the No. 1 pop single but that reign will end next week when Janet Jackson’s “That’s the Way Love Goes,” which rocketed to No. 2 in just two weeks, will take over.

Rank Rank 2 Weeks Last Weeks on the Week Ago Chart 1. “Get a Grip,” Aerosmith ... ... 1 2. “The Bodyguard,” soundtrack 1 1 22 3. “Breathless,” Kenny G 2 2 23 4. “Pocket Full of Kryptonite,” Spin Doctors 3 3 45 5. “Unplugged,” Eric Clapton 4 4 35 6. “The Chronic,” Dr. Dre 6 7 19 7. “Primus,” Pork Soda ... ... 1 8. “12 Inches of Snow,” Snow 5 5 14 9. “Lose Control,” Silk 7 8 18 10. “Love Deluxe,” Sade 9 12 25 * “Fever for Da Flavor,” H-Town 60 171 3

* H-Town’s single, “Knockin Da Boots,” would be the hottest on the chart--if it weren’t for the Jackson single. “Knockin’ Da Boots” shot up to No. 12 in just a month, boosting sales of the group’s album in the process. “Fever for Da Flavor” jumped from No. 60 to No. 48 and looks like a strong Top 20 candidate.
