Almost $3 Million Bet on Derby at Hollypark
Unable to bet on five other simulcast races from Churchill Downs after a late change on Friday, local fans made up for the loss in the Kentucky Derby.
Combining on-track handle with the 18 satellite facilities, Hollywood Park handled a single-race record $2,986,676, surpassing the former mark of $2,597,453 set on the 1990 Kentucky Derby. The total mutuel handle for the program was $14,316,468, the second-highest total in track history.
This was the first time Hollywood Park offered a trifecta on the Derby. The trifecta pool was $466,520, including $176,662 on-track.
Combined, the win-place-show pool was $1,415,618 and $439,810 on-track and the exacta pool was $1,104,538, including $364,265 at Hollywood Park.
Upset winner Sea Hero paid $33.40 to win locally, compared to $27.80 at Churchill Downs.
