Breakthrough Chip Announced: Texas Instruments Inc. said it is introducing a breakthrough computer chip that provides improved sound for CD players, televisions and other electronic products. The chip, which reads digitally compressed audio waves, will allow product designers to increase system performance, efficiency and reliability while reducing manufacturing costs, the company said. The signal the chip processes can also be used to allow CD-quality digital radio service that could potentially replace FM as the high-quality broadcast medium, Texas Instruments said.
