VAN NUYS : Sims Prosecutors Play Tape Interview

Share

Attempting to rebut testimony given by a key witness last week, prosecutors played a tape recording of an interview with a woman who told police that her boyfriend had abducted her at gunpoint and raped her after he shot two people at the woman’s former residence.

After telling Superior Court Judge Kathryne Ann Stoltz that the woman lied from the witness stand when she denied being victimized, Deputy Dist. Atty. Linda Acaldo played the tape for the jury hearing the case of Troyal (Troy) Lee Sims.

Sims, a 25-year-old city traffic enforcement officer, is charged with three counts of attempted murder, kidnap for sexual purposes, rape and other charges stemming from an Aug. 30 assault on two apartments in North Hollywood.

Sims contends that he burst into an apartment and shot two people in an attempt to rescue his girlfriend, who had become involved with a small group operating a forgery ring.

On the tape, the 21-year-old woman is heard telling police that Sims put a 9-millimeter handgun to her head, then picked her up and carried her to a van that was parked outside.

She also told police that she was forced to have sex with Sims because he had the gun pointed at her and she feared for her life.

The woman said last week that she was still in love with Sims. She said she lied to police because she was angry with Sims, who indirectly led police to the forgery ring by shooting two people at her Hesby Street apartment.

Sims, who is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail, is expected to testify during the trial.
