Returning: Roger Mudd, a longtime member of the “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour” team, will return to the program later this month following the May 14 departure of chief Washington correspondent Judy Woodruff, who is going to the Cable News Network. Mudd, whose title was senior correspondent when he left the PBS series to accept Princeton University’s Ferris Professorship of Journalism for 1992, will also pinch-hit--as he has in the past--for anchors Robert MacNeil and Jim Lehrer. Meanwhile, there’s still no word on Woodruff’s successor, but the naming of Mudd would seem to indicate there is no particular hurry.
