Ingram Micro Posts 50% Gain in Sales

Share

Ingram Micro Inc., a wholesaler of personal computer products, said its first-quarter sales jumped more than 50% to a record $932 million.

That’s up from $606 million during the first quarter of 1992.

About $40 million of this quarter’s sales increase came from three new acquisitions: Mexico’s Ingram Dicom; Germany’s Ingram Micro GmbH; and Britain’s Terminal Five.

But Ingram also had “a very strong first quarter, gaining share in each of the markets we serve,” said Linwood A. Lacy Jr., Ingram’s co-chairman.

Among the brighter spots for the quarter: Ingram Micro Europe, which had sales of more than $100 million for the first time.

Ingram Micro is a unit of Ingram Industries Inc. and so does not disclose profits.

Ingram Micro says it is the world’s largest wholesale distributor of products for personal computers, selling 16,000 items from more than 750 computer manufacturers and software companies.

Sales last year were $2.7 billion.
