San Gabriel : Redevelopment Study Panel

Share

Because the city’s proposed redevelopment might displace households of low or moderate income, the City Council on Tuesday authorized city staff to assemble a committee, drawn from people in the affected areas, to advise the redevelopment agency as the project progresses.

City Administrator P. Michael Paules said state law requires formation of an advisory group if as few as five households might be moved.

Committee members could include residents, business owners and existing community groups in the proposed redevelopment area, according to a report presented to the council.

The committee would consult with the redevelopment agency during preparation of a redevelopment plan and during the three years after the plan’s adoption.

Paules said city staff will send invitations for a community forum in late May to all addresses in the proposed redevelopment zone, which includes much of the commercial corridor along San Gabriel Boulevard south of Las Tunas Drive as well as along Las Tunas east of the boulevard.

A second meeting is scheduled for early June, when those in attendance will help select the committee, Paules said. The City Council must give final approval to the committee membership.
