OAK VIEW : Pipe Bomb Found in Car at Ranch
- Share via
The Ventura County sheriff’s bomb squad is searching for suspects in connection with a pipe bomb found planted in a car’s exhaust pipe on an Oak View ranch.
The device was discovered by ranch owner Louis Price when he went to retrieve a tire jack from the trunk of an old Datsun about 6:22 p.m. Tuesday. It was removed from the Riverside Road property by Detective Joe Braga and Sgt. Rod Thompson and deactivated in a nearby field.
No one was injured, but Braga said the crudely constructed bomb could have caused significant damage.
“If the car would have been started and a spark had hit the fuse, it would have detonated in three to five seconds,” he said.
Price told police he saw a man he did not know standing near the car about three weeks ago. The man, who was holding a rifle, left after Price confronted him, Braga said.
